All Have Sinned
All Have Sinned
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
We like to use the phrase, “missed the mark.” When talking about sin. Romans gives us a hint of that saying we have “fallen short of the glory of God.” God is Holy and by nature we are not. It was not so in the beginning. God created the first man and woman and placed them in a garden called Eden. They were holy up until they chose to disobey God and ate the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.
“And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree of the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die.”
Genesis 2:16-17 HCSB
“Then the woman saw that the tree was good for food and delightful to look at, and that it was desirable for obtaining wisdom. So she took some of its fruit and ate it; she also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.”
Genesis 3:6-7 HCSB
We have then had our DNA changed. We were given a death gene that gives us our number of days on the earth. It starts counting down the day we are born. Because Adam and Eve were given a choice we too are given a choice.
“We all went astray like sheep; we all have turned to our own way; and the Lord has punished Him for the iniquity of us all.”
Every one of us will choose to disobey God. But Jesus did not! He chose to come to earth from Heaven and walk in perfect step with God. He did not miss the mark.
“Yet the Lord was pleased to crush Him severely. When You make Him a restitution offering, He will see His seed, He will prolong His days, and by His hand, the Lord’s pleasure will be accomplished.”
Why would God be pleased to severely crush Jesus? He was perfect and did not miss the mark. But by crushing Jesus he became our restitution offering. That is to say, he made up where we fell short of God’s mark.
“God presented Him as a propitiation (restitution offering) through faith in His blood, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His restraint God passed over the sins previously committed. God presented Him to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be righteous and declare righteous the one who has faith in Jesus.”
Romans 3:25-26 HCSB

But there is hope because Jesus was crushed we are welcome to join Jesus back into life with God. Jesus became what we were to make us what He is holy!
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
“But God proves His own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!”
“If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation.”
