“God brought them out of Egypt; He is like the horns of a wild ox for them.” Numbers 23:22 HCSB

When God repeats HImself it is for a purpose. It is to get a point across.

God repeats Himself again in Number 24:8

“God brought him out of Egypt; He is like the horns of a wild ox for them. He will feed on enemy nations and gnaw their bones; he will strike them with his arrows.”

Numbers 24:8 HCSB

God is love, but God is jealous. He loved Jacob enough to give him his own land, but the sins of the people had not become so great that God would judge those nations. But now 400 years later God is getting ready to judge the nations for their sins. He is going ahead of Israel to clean out the land. He is gong in like a wild ox, a bull in a china shop. He is going to judge the nations that have occupied the land of Canaan, the land flowing with milk and honey. Now Balak has a decision to make. Will he allow the nation of Israel to pass through till they get to the other side of the Jordan or will he continue to poke and prod at this Wild Ox. Balak chooses the wrong decision. He continues to poke. And it was disastrous for his neighbors and allies, the Midianites, and for Balaam whom He hired.

““Execute vengeance for the Israelites against the Midianites. After that, you will be gathered to your people.” So Moses spoke to the people, “Equip some of your men for war. They will go against Midian to inflict the Lord’s vengeance on them.

They waged war against Midian, as the Lord had commanded Moses, and killed every male. Along with the others slain by them, they killed the Midianite kings — Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.”

Balaam never made it back home. He was caught, by God, in a war with the Midianites.

God spared the people of Moab because of there connection to Lot, Abraham’s nephew.

“The Lord said to me, ‘Show no hostility toward Moab, and do not provoke them to battle, for I will not give you any of their land as a possession, since I have given Ar as a possession to the descendants of Lot.’ ””

On which side do you find yourself with God, on His loving side with discipline, or on His jealous side with judgment? I think I would rather be on the loving end away from the horns of this Wild Ox.
