Romans 12:3 (CSB) 3For by the grace given to me, I tell everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he should think. Instead, think sensibly, as God has distributed a measure of faith to each one.
Sensibly means having, using, or showing good sense or sound judgment (dictionary.com). The new living translation says: Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves. We are not to think too highly or too lowly but honestly of ourselves. God has a pretty high view of us who obey His commands (Deuteronomy 28:1-14). However the opposite is also true. Those who do not obey God there are many curses in store for them (Deuteronomy 28:15-68). For those who are in Christ we have amazing blessing from God (Ephesians 1:3). Is our viewpoint of ourselves the same as God's? When we are seeking after God and his viewpoint of us is high is ours also high? When we are stuck in sin and waisting our live away is our view point the same as God's? Are we eager to run back to God as He is eager to welcome us back? The prodigal son is the best example of God toward the sinner and the saint. God will give us everything that is to be ours. For the son or daughter who is out spending God's blessing on the world for their enjoyment, God is at home expectantly waiting for them to come back home to Him. The son or daughter who is still at home doing whatever the father is asking God is sill able to give them all they ask for, to enjoy life within his boundaries? The prodigal son had his viewpoint too high of himself and too low of his father. While the son who stayed home had his viewpoint too low of himself and too high of his father. Consider what the father says to the son who stayed home in Luke 15:31 (CSB) " 'Son,' he said to him, 'you are always with me, and everything I have is yours."
