Philippians 4:7 (CSB) And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

When we choose thanksgiving in our prayers and petitions God WILL supply peace to our circumstances, guard our hearts to make the right choices, and guard our minds so that we may have clear knowledge and wisdom. The breastplate of righteousness and the shield of faith also protect your heart. The helmet of salvation protects your head (Ephesians 6:10-17). So how does thanksgiving bring about righteousness, faith, and salvation? Self thanksgiving results in selfish actions but if we focus on our limited ability and thank God for his unlimited ability then we can live in righteousness (Luke 18:9-14). As we thank God for previous victory we can have faith God will provide future victories. Salvation is a matter of thanksgiving. We are thankful for what Jesus did for us on the cross. We are thankful for all the times He saves us each day. We are thankful for the future salvation when we are no longer in this world but in the eternal presence of God. But if we can't be thankful for the cross and accept the salvation Jesus offers we will not see the last salvation in heaven (John 3:16).
