Hebrews 10:31 (CSB) It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Matthew 21:44 (CSB) "Whoever falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will shatter him."

To repent before God willingly is a much better place than to be crushed by the judgement of God. To bow down now, by my own choice, will be better for me then to be made to bow down latter, pleading for mercy latter at the judgement seat. To help others now in Jesus name will give me rewards later. To please self now will get eternal punishment latter (Matthew 25:33-46).  To live by the spirit will give us spiritual blessings. To live by the flesh will give us fleshly consequences (Romans 8:13-15). 1 Chronicles 21 gives a story from the life of David. David had not obeyed God and counted the people. God gave David three choices. David choose to fall victim to the judgement of God for three days.  70,000 men of Israel died in those days. In order for the angel to not destroy Jerusalem David and the elders had to repent. Then David went out to buy the threshing floor from Ornan. This cost David 15 pounds of gold. David's action took the life of 70,000 men, who would not be in his army, and also 15 pounds of Gold out of his own "pocket". David's actions cost Him more than He had expected. My sins will cost me more than I expect at the time, and will cost me something in repentance.
