1 John 1:8 (CSB) If we say, "We have no sin," we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

The truth is that we have all sinned (Romans 3:23). We all had sinned before we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior. And once we had accepted Jesus He cast our sins into His vast sea of forgiveness (Micah 7:19). Now in Christ we must continue to strive after God and what He wants for our life.

1 John 3:6 (CSB) Everyone who remains in him does not sin; everyone who sins has not seen him or known him.

1 John 3:9 (CSB) Everyone who has been born of God does not sin, because his seed remains in him; he is not able to sin, because he has been born of God.

How can we say, "we have no sin," be deceiving us, yet everyone who has been born of God does not sin? Yes we all have a past! Therefore we all have previously sinned. 1 John 1:8 seems to be saying that if we say our past is completely clean then we are deceiving our selves. 1 John 3:9 seems to say that those who have been born of God, God does not hold our one time sins against us and that we are not able to wonder away from law or path of God.

2 Corinthians 12:21 (CSB) I fear that when I come my God will again humiliate me in your presence, and I will grieve for many who sinned before and have not repented of the moral impurity, sexual immorality, and sensuality they practiced.

Galatians 5:19-21 (CSB) 19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, 21 envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I am warning you about these things -- as I warned you before -- that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

These verses are showing us sins that are practiced over and over till they become a habit. Our one time sins are not held against us, but those sins that are done habitually will be. Because then we will no longer be walking in the light but will be satisfying our flesh.
