Matthew 4:20 (CSB) Immediately they left their nets and followed him.

What in Jesus life would trigger an immediate response from Peter and Andrew?  John 1:29-42 gives us our first hints. John had told a large crowd and his disciples, "that man is the Messiah!" And no doubt that Andrew had seen the spirit land on him and had heard the voice from heaven. So Andrews follows Jesus for a day and grabs Peter also. But then Jesus disappears for 40 days and Andrew and Peter go back to work, fishing. Luke 5:1-11 gives us another clue. This is the same situation as Matthew 4:18-20, and Mark 1:16-20 but Jesus does something different. He shows up on the scene preaching. Jesus needed more room because the crowd is pressing in on Him. So he sits down in Peter's boat and asks him the put out a little from land. Last of all when Jesus is all done preaching he tells Peter to go to deeper waters and thrown His net In for a catch. He does and he pulls in a catch so big that the net and boat are beyond their limit, but they don't break or sink. At this miracle Peter is humbled and asks Jesus to leave because he felt that Jesus was too good to be in his boat and near Peter. But Jesus has other plans. He calls Peter and Andrew to follow Him. They do with out hesitation. The miracles Jesus does is for the building up of the body so that they will know Jesus is Lord. The miracles Jesus does is for the world so that they will know that Jesus is savior. The Christians will continue to put their trust in Him and the world will trust Him for the first time. Thank God that He still does those miracles today he just uses willing people to do them (John 14:12).

Luke 5:1-11 (CSB) 1 As the crowd was pressing in on Jesus to hear God's word, he was standing by Lake Gennesaret. 2 He saw two boats at the edge of the lake; the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, which belonged to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from the land. Then he sat down and was teaching the crowds from the boat. 4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water and let down your nets for a catch." 5 "Master," Simon replied, "we've worked hard all night long and caught nothing. But if you say so, I'll let down the nets." 6 When they did this, they caught a great number of fish, and their nets began to tear. 7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them; they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus's knees and said, "Go away from me, because I'm a sinful man, Lord! " 9 For he and all those with him were amazed at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, Zebedee's sons, who were Simon's partners. "Don't be afraid," Jesus told Simon. "From now on you will be catching people." 11 Then they brought the boats to land, left everything, and followed him.

Matthew 12:41-42 (CSB) 41 "The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at Jonah's preaching; and look -- something greater than Jonah is here. 42 "The queen of the south will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and look -- something greater than Solomon is here.
