Matthew 4:22 (CSB) Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
Can you imagine the conversation that Zebedee had with his sons after this verse.
Zebedee: "Why did you follow Jesus and leave me here with the boats?
John: "Dad he is the messiah!"
Z: "Are you sure?"
James: "Yes! Did you not see all the fish that Peter caught?"
Z: "Yes I did but that could have been just a fluke."
John: "No way dad!"
Z: "When will you be back?"
Both: "Never, he is going to set up the rule and reign of God back in Israel. And we want to be apart of that!"
Z: "Ok, when you guys find out differently, I'll still be here fishing."
Mom: "I'm with the boys. See you latter Z. "
Z: "WAIT! get back here. Now what am I going to do."
I wonder if some of us has or had to do this with our family or friends. We are called to leave the world behind and pursue Jesus (John 17:14-16, Romans 12:1-2). For us who still have to tell others that we are a christian I pray that we can find the courage to do so soon. If we are afraid to tell others that we are a christian then we might find ourselves being disowned by Jesus. Mark 8:38 (CSB)
"For whoever is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will also be ashamed of him when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."
And for those of us who have stood up for Jesus even for the sake of loosing friends or family I applaud you. Matthew 19:27-29 (CSB) 27 Then Peter responded to him, "See, we have left everything and followed you. So what will there be for us? " 28 Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, in the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 "And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields because of my name will receive a hundred times more and will inherit eternal life.
I know everyone here at work knows I am a christian. But however I have a hard time talking about God and Jesus while here at work. But if they ever have a question I am here to answer them. So am I ashamed or have I left the world to follow Jesus?
