Isaiah 53:2 (CSB) 2 He grew up before him like a young plant and like a root out of dry ground. He didn't have an impressive form or majesty that we should look at him, no appearance that we should desire him.

Jesus is the king who will reign forever on the throne of David. He is the one that to him every knee bow. Jesus is the root of Jesse that all men will be drawn too. He is grown from the roots of David. Jesus is not from the top of David's line but the root. Jesus is not like the kings of Judah who did not serve God but He is grown from the foundation of David's foundation. Do not look to his appearance to save you but look to his heart.

Isaiah 11:1 (CSB)
1 Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit.

Isaiah 11:10 (CSB)
On that day the root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples. The nations will look to him for guidance, and his resting place will be glorious.

1 Samuel 16:7, 12-13 (CSB) But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not look at his appearance or his stature because I have rejected him. Humans do not see what the LORD sees, for humans see what is visible, but the LORD sees the heart." 12 So Jesse sent for him. He had beautiful eyes and a healthy, handsome appearance. Then the LORD said, "Anoint him, for he is the one." 13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully on David from that day forward. Then Samuel set out and went to Ramah.

Jesus had no striking appearance. There was no royal dignity that made him stand out among the crowd. I see Mephibosheth as a picture of Jesus. There was nothing special about Mephibosheth in fact he was crippled in both of his feet. The only thing he had going for him was that king David was in his corner. Jesus had no physical traits to make Him stand out. But He had God in his corner. His like was rooted in God and his steps were solidly planted on the words of God. Because Jesus' life solidly planted in God, God made Him the cornerstone of the Christian church. Can we then plant ourselves solidly on the words and acts of Jesus and we become humble stones for Him to use to build His Church? And in the end Jesus will be lifted up so that all people will be drawn to Him!

2 Samuel 9

Matthew 7:24-27 (CSB) 24 "Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 "The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn't collapse, because its foundation was on the rock. 26 "But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn't act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 "The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. It collapsed with a great crash."

Matthew 21:42 (CSB)
Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is what the Lord has done and it is wonderful in our eyes?

Acts 4:11 (CSB)
"This Jesus is the stone rejected by you builders, which has become the cornerstone.

Matthew 16:18 (CSB)
"And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

John 12:32 (CSB)
"As for me, if I am lifted up from the earth I will draw all people to myself."
