Hebrews 9:26 (CSB) Otherwise, he would have had to suffer many times since the foundation of the world. But now he has appeared one time, at the end of the ages, for the removal of sin by the sacrifice of himself.

Jesus appeared at the end of the age of the Mosaic covenant. Not to do away with all the laws of God but to fulfill the Sacrifices needed in the law. Certainly we need to keep the other laws like, loving God, keeping the Sabbath holy, honoring our father and mother, and the others found in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5. Jesus makes salvation easier, but living harder. What I mean is Salvation comes when we accept that Jesus died on the cross for us as savior and as Jesus as Lord. That is the easier part. Jesus laid out several areas that on the surface looked easy in the Law, but in fact deeper is harder to do.

Matthew 5:21-22 (CSB) 21 "You have heard that it was said to our ancestors, Do not murder, and whoever murders will be subject to judgment. 22 "But I tell you, everyone who is angry with his brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Whoever insults his brother or sister, will be subject to the court. Whoever says, 'You fool! ' will be subject to hellfire.

First is murder. Yes we all know that murder is wrong but Jesus took it a step farther and said that if we are mad or angry with them then we are committing murder. For in our hearts we say I wish that person was not even alive.

Matthew 5:27-28 (CSB) 27 "You have heard that it was said, Do not commit adultery. 28 "But I tell you, everyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Second is Adultery. We should remain faithful to our spouse. But Jesus went a step farther to say that when we look at another’s spouse with lust we commit adultery in their heart.

Matthew 5:33-37 (CSB) 33 "Again, you have heard that it was said to our ancestors, You must not break your oath, but you must keep your oaths to the Lord. 34 "But I tell you, don't take an oath at all: either by heaven, because it is God's throne; 35 "or by the earth, because it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, because it is the city of the great King. 36 "Do not swear by your head, because you cannot make a single hair white or black. 37 "But let your 'yes' mean 'yes,' and your 'no' mean 'no.' Anything more than this is from the evil one.

Third is our oaths. The old law need a higher authority to seal up a oath, but Jesus tells us that our word is our oath. The old days your word and a hand shake was enough to seal a deal. My words create life or death.

Matthew 5:38-39 (CSB) 38 "You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. 39 "But I tell you, don't resist an evildoer. On the contrary, if anyone slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.

Next is our revenge. We are not to expect to return what has been wronged me to the other person. We are to treat others the way we want to be treated. Not to treat them as they treat us.

Matthew 5:43-44 (CSB) 43 "You have heard that it was said, Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. 44 "But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

Last is our love. It is easy to love throes who love you, but it is even harder to love those who hate you.

On top of all that now that we are followers of Jesus the world will hate us, will persecute us, will throw us into prison, will try to kill us. All because God is enemy number one to the devil. Anyone who follows God the devil tries real hard to discourage and depress. But greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4).
