Hebrews 9:27 (CSB) And just as it is appointed for people to die once -- and after this, judgment --

It has often been said that the only two things that are certain in life in death and taxes. The thing that is certain after death for everyone is judgement. So what kind of Judgement awaits us before eternity?

Revelation 11:18 (CSB) The nations were angry, but your wrath has come. The time has come for the dead to be judged and to give the reward to your servants the prophets, to the saints, and to those who fear your name, both small and great, and the time has come to destroy those who destroy the earth.

Revelation 20:12-15 (CSB) 12 I also saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life, and the dead were judged according to their works by what was written in the books. 13 Then the sea gave up the dead that were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them; each one was judged according to their works. 14 Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

For those who are in the Book of Life their judgment is their reward. For they will be rewarded by their actions here in this life. For those who are not in the Book of life their judgement is the Lake of Fire which was only made the the Devil and his angels and not for humans but because they refused to follow Jesus and follow the Devil they get their judgement. Humans were not destined to the second death but because they would not follow Jesus would experience the loke of fire. From the beginning of sin God has wanted to have fellowship with Humans. After Adam and Eve ate of the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and their eyes were open, God came into the garden to talk with them as He had done so many times before. He knew they had eaten the fruit and He was looking for a confession and a repentance from them. (Genesis 3:6-13)

Jesus had not come to judge the world but to save it (John 12:47). But in the last days God will judge the world.

Matthew 25:31-34, 41 (CSB) 31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 "All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 "He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on the left. 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world....41"Then he will also say to those on the left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels!

Matthew 5:25 (CSB) "Reach a settlement quickly with your adversary while you're on the way with him to the court, or your adversary will hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and you will be thrown into prison.

I do think this is a glimpse into judgement. Our adversary is Jesus before we “reach a settlement” with Him. Jesus will take us into the courtroom of Judgement. Where He will be either our prosecutor or our defense before the judge. God is the judge and His judgement will be just. And God’s angles will be the officer to escort people into their eternity.
