““I assure you: An hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.” John 5:25 HCSB

#3 of 3 assurance from Jesus

Jesus might just be talking to the Sadducees. The Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection of the dead.

“The same day some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came up to Him and questioned Him:

In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had married her.” Jesus answered them, “You are deceived, because you don’t know the Scriptures or the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like angels in heaven. Now concerning the resurrection of the dead, haven’t you read what was spoken to you by God: I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.””

Matthew 22:23, 28-32 HCSB

But Jesus was telling them that one day in their lifetime that the Dead will raise from the dead into their eternal life.

“The tombs were also opened and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised. And they came out of the tombs after His resurrection, entered the holy city, and appeared to many.”

But there will be a day when the rest of the people who listen and believe (John 5:24)  will be risen with Jesus once again whether dead or alive.

“But each in his own order: Christ, the firstfruits; afterward, at His coming, those who belong to Christ. Then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father, when He abolishes all rule and all authority and power.”

1 Corinthians 15:23-24 HCSB

But resurrection, as with many other things, happen here and now too. Because Jesus is Life and He is the Creator, He can resurrect the dead things in our lives NOW. Are you stock in a dead job? Ask Him to revive it. Is your relationship with God or an other person dead? Ask and it will be healed.

I heard a story of a young worship leader who every time she was leading worship she was excited and enthusiastic about it. When asked how she was able to maintain such a consistent excitement during worship she replied that she had asked God to create a new worship experience for her every time she lead worship.

The same can be true for us. God can make the routine and mundane into something alive and exciting if we just ask.

“You desire and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and don’t receive because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your evil desires.”

James 4:2-3 HCSB

God spoke this to me as I was praying about a job that business seemed to be slowing down and I might get laid off, but then after I prayed and claimed this verse God sustained that job and business for another year or so till He moved me to another job.
