When we shepherd God’s flock with genuine concern, eagerly, and as an example then when God sees us following His word He will reward us with a shining crown of glory. We did not do it to get a reward but back in our minds we know we will get rewarded for our works.
“So we must not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, we must work for the good of all, especially for those who belong to the household of faith.”

No work goes unnoticed by God, He will reward any good work done for Him or His kids. He will also apply disciple because of any work that is contrary to His word and will. Confession and repentance to God will result in forgiveness. Which fees us from the guilt of the sin, but does not free us from the disciple or punishment.
“David responded to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” Then Nathan replied to David, “The Lord has taken away your sin; you will not die. However, because you treated the Lord with such contempt in this matter, the son born to you will die.””

David was forgiven, but he still had to bear his punishment.

God kept up His end of the bargain to David. David’s descendants ruled Israel till the exile to Babylon. And now Jesus David’s Son is waiting till the right time to take His throne over Israel and all the earth.
“You must not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the fathers’ sin, to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing faithful love to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commands.”

So not only will we receive a crown in heaven but we will have left behind 1000 generations worth of blessings if we follow God and His will.
