Do not lean on your own mind, understanding, but rather lean on God and His word. Your mind is capable of sin, but God is capable of so much more. He knows the path your on. He knows the destination for you. And He knows how to get you there. God is working it out for you. And as He does He will keep you in perfect peace. Not just a worldly calm but a peace that is higher, deeper, and wider than anything the devil can throw at you. Turmoil will happen in your life, who will you lean on? Life is easy when it is going well, but your peace will show who you are leaning on when life gets messy. 

God’s peace is Shalowm ,taken from the root word Shalom, here in Isaiah 26:3 and is used in our English Bibles as:

completeness, soundness, welfare, and peace.

“The time had come for the Lord to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elijah and Elisha were traveling from Gilgal, and Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here; the Lord is sending me on to Bethel.” But Elisha replied, “As the Lord lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel. Then the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha and said, “Do you know that the Lord will take your master away from you today? ” He said, “Yes, I know. Be quiet (hold your peace).” Elijah said to him, “Elisha, stay here; the Lord is sending me to Jericho.” But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Jericho. Then the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho came up to Elisha and said, “Do you know that the Lord will take your master away from you today? ” He said, “Yes, I know. Be quiet (hold your peace).”

Elisha’s responses to Elijah was of holding on to peace.  His response to the prophets was “hold your peace, hold your tongue, be quiet”. The world tries to give there two cents into our peace, but what they are doing is really adding more turmoil into our peace.

Jesus showed the same kind of peace with the demons He was casting out.

“But Jesus rebuked him and said, “Be quiet and come out of him! ” And throwing him down before them, the demon came out of him without hurting him at all.”

 The final state of this man was peace, shalom, a God-given peace. 

“When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it roams through waterless places looking for rest but doesn’t find any. Then it says, ‘I’ll go back to my house that I came from.’ And returning, it finds the house vacant, swept, and put in order. Then off it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and settle down there. As a result, that man’s last condition is worse than the first. That’s how it will also be with this evil generation.”

When God’s peace cleans us we have to be careful to keep God’s peace in us or we become more susceptible to the peace of the world and become worse off for it.
