“For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set of the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans 8:6 HCSB
The law of sin and death and the law of life are not something that you can either break or keep, like laws in this world. Rather they are the truth that God has established from the beginning. So now the flesh will think about things that are dead and the Spirit will think about things that are life.
Let us face it when we let our flesh run wild it will take us to deep dark places we would rather not go if we were to control the flesh just through normal discipline. But those who are in Christ have the Spirit in us and we can turn that Spirit loose in our lives and He will take us to new heights in God. Miracles will flow from us. Words of wisdom will be abundant in us. Our speech will bring life to those around us. The kingdom of God will operate in our world as it does in Heaven.
What would your life look like if your flesh was to be in total control? Either you would be horrified by that thought or you would be completely ok with it because that is where you are living now. Now, what would your life look like if the Spirit was to be in total control? Most of us shudder at this thought, “but what if God askes me to do something extreme.” Or we would be yes Lord have your way in me.
If the Spirit was to be in total control our lives would flow with; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, goodness, and self-control. I don’t know about you but all these things sound good to me. I wish the world had more of these evident in it. So it has to start with me. I cannot expect the world to have more of these if I am not willing to show more of them to the world.
If the flesh was to have total control in your life then in a matter of years your life would amount to nothing and all those who love you would morn for the loss of life in your life.
We all were made for a purpose, a higher calling in God. He knows what is best for you. Now through Christ and the Holy Spirit strive for it, taking one strep of faith at a time toward God.
“Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I tell you about these things in advance — as I told you before — that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

“For I know the plans I have for you” — this is the Lord’s declaration — “plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. You will call to Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you” — this is the Lord’s declaration — “and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and places where I banished you” — this is the Lord’s declaration. “I will restore you to the place I deported you from.”
