“For those who live according to the flesh think about the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, about the things of the Spirit.” Romans 8:5 HCSB

We who live to satisfy the flesh are living in the law of sin and death. We have allowed our souls to be feed by the world. But those who live to satisfy the Spirit are living in the Law of life. We are actively seeking the Spirit in our souls. Most of us will fall somewhere in between these two extremes. Jesus was the only one to completely follow the Spirit, but that does not mean we should not try to follow the Spirit in our lives.

Jesus went back to God and sent the Holy Spirit to us so that we will not be alone in our adventure of life. The Holy Spirit is here to help us as Jesus was there to help the 12 Apostles. The Holy Spirit is another helper acting just like Jesus. He is one and the same with Jesus and God. He only speaks what He hears from God and He only does what God tells Him to do. It is our job to obey the directions of the Holy Spirit and not quench the Spirit through disobedience and unbelief.

“Do not quench [subdue, or be unresponsive to the working and guidance of] the [Holy] Spirit.”

“Then Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown, among his relatives, and in his household.” So He was not able to do any miracles there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. And He was amazed at their unbelief. Now He was going around the villages in a circuit, teaching.”

As Jesus was stopped by the unbelief of His home town. So the Holy Spirit is stopped in our lives because we don't follow His leading. The more we trust and obey the leading of the Holy Spirit the more He will lead is. If we don’t follow His leading He will not lead us to more of the promises of God.

Salvation is not earned by works, but the gifts and blessings of God are! Most of the time when we have a promise to claim in the Bible we see a job for us to do. ”If you do this then I will do this for you.” But all too often we want the blessings and gifts from God without being obedient to God. By living according to the Spirit we have the promise of God that the law of life will be working in us. If we do not follow the Spirit but follow the flesh then we will have the law of sin and death living in us.

“Why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things I say? I will show you what someone is like who comes to Me, hears My words, and acts on them: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the river crashed against that house and couldn’t shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears and does not act is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The river crashed against it, and immediately it collapsed. And the destruction of that house was great! ””

“In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a bad tree produces bad fruit. A good tree can’t produce bad fruit; neither can a bad tree produce good fruit. Every tree that doesn’t produce good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So you’ll recognize them by their fruit. “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord! ’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of My Father in heaven. On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name? ’ Then I will announce to them, ‘I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!’”
