“For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry out, “ Abba, Father! ” Romans 8:15 HCSB

This is what is unique about Christianity. God wants us to be His sons and daughters. Most, if not all, other religions make the followers slaves to an overlord. “If you mess up then god will certainly strike you down and strip away any rewards.” This is not want God wants for you. Yes, He will discipline you for disobeying His word, but it is out of love like an earthly father would lovingly discipline his children. No father should want to beat his kids until they fear him. He should however loving discipline them so that they know what they did was work and then the kids will love the father. God is not waiting to crush His followers with an iron fist, but rather He is waiting to build us up into a ruler of many cities.

“Keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who searches finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. What man among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”

God wants you to have good things from Him. He requires obedience to do your part then He will do his part. The Only exception is salvation. Jesus has already paid that price we just have to accept it. He wants us to ask Him for answers to our prayers. We strive on our own to figure it out or obtain it, but God wants us to ask Him first.

In Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words under Abba, we find that slaves were forbidden to address the head of the family by this title. It approximates to a personal name, in contrast to "Father,". It would be that my kids could call me daddy, but the people who would work for me would call me Brian. So now we can call God, Father Father, or Daddy Father. He is the familiar God. He is all-knowing of your current problems, sins, and victories. He knows all about you. Yet He wants you to be at ease with Him as a child should be with their parents. He wants you to obey His commands not because you have to but because you want to.

If we are God’s children then we are Jesus’ brothers and sisters. He is the role model Big Brother. He showed us how to live and how to please God. Now it is our turn to do it. When we follow Jesus' footsteps He is proud of us. when we do not He is not. We, the church and individuals need to act in a way that big brother Jesus would be proud of us.

“Now if some of the branches were broken off, and you, though a wild olive branch, were grafted in among them and have come to share in the rich root of the cultivated olive tree, do not brag that you are better than those branches. But if you do brag — you do not sustain the root, but the root sustains you. Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” True enough; they were broken off by unbelief, but you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid. For if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you either. Therefore, consider God’s kindness and severity: severity toward those who have fallen but God’s kindness toward you — if you remain in His kindness. Otherwise, you too will be cut off. And even they, if they do not remain in unbelief, will be grafted in, because God has the power to graft them in again. For if you were cut off from your native wild olive and against nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these — the natural branches — be grafted into their own olive tree?”

Through unbelief, the Jews were removed from the Vine of God and so will some churches. God is not required to keep you in the vine if you don’t want to be there. And we show God we want to be there by believing in Him. Salvation is not earned by works, but if you reject God after being saved then through unbelief God can remove you. Belief in Jesus as your Lord and Savior gets you saved. Unbelief in God will get you removed. But then you always have the opportunity to come back to God through belief. God is not required to save you if you don’t want to be saved, but He is willing to save you when you are ready.

“This is good, and it pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

“The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.”
