“Now if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” Romans 8:10 HCSB https://www.bible.com/72/rom.8.10.hcsb

“Heavens, sprinkle from above, and let the skies shower righteousness. Let the earth open up so that salvation will sprout and righteousness will spring up with it. I, Yahweh, have created it.”

Isaiah 45:8 HCSB

Righteousness does not come in our efforts, but by the Spirit. We can and should strive for righteousness, but it is our desire and determination to seek God, His spirit and His word that righteousness flows from Heaven to us.

“There was a man in the country of Uz named Job. He was a man of perfect integrity, who feared God and turned away from evil.

Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? No one else on earth is like him, a man of perfect integrity, who fears God and turns away from evil.”

Job 1:1, 8 HCSB

“Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? No one else on earth is like him, a man of perfect integrity, who fears God and turns away from evil. He still retains his integrity, even though you incited Me against him, to destroy him without just cause.”

His wife said to him, “Do you still retain your integrity? Curse God and die! ” “You speak as a foolish woman speaks,” he told her. “Should we accept only good from God and not adversity? ” Throughout all this Job did not sin in what he said.”

Job 2:3, 9-10 HCSB

What do we know about Job to tell us how he had perfect Integrity? How did he fear God? How he turned away from evil? He was the priest of his home.

“His sons used to take turns having banquets at their homes. They would send an invitation to their three sisters to eat and drink with them. Whenever a round of banqueting was over, Job would send for his children and purify them, rising early in the morning to offer burnt offerings for all of them. For Job thought: Perhaps my children have sinned, having cursed God in their hearts. This was Job’s regular practice.”

Job 1:4-5 HCSB

No doubt He would talk to his kids about their parties, but he would sacrifice, pray, for them that God would forgive them. This was righteousness being displayed for his kids and for the rest of his world.

“I command the married — not I, but the Lord — a wife is not to leave her husband. But if she does leave, she must remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband — and a husband is not to leave his wife. But I (not the Lord) say to the rest: If any brother has an unbelieving wife and she is willing to live with him, he must not leave her. Also, if any woman has an unbelieving husband and he is willing to live with her, she must not leave her husband. For the unbelieving husband is set apart for God by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is set apart for God by the husband. Otherwise your children would be corrupt, but now they are set apart for God. But if the unbeliever leaves, let him leave. A brother or a sister is not bound in such cases. God has called you to live in peace. For you, wife, how do you know whether you will save your husband? Or you, husband, how do you know whether you will save your wife?”

1 Corinthians 7:10-16 HCSB

The unbelieving husband or wife will see the righteousness of the believer and turn to God through their righteousness. Divorce is the suicide of marriage. It is a permanent solution to a temporary circumstance. As long as your married your kids have the blessing of God. But if your divorced your kids get mixed signals and may not serve God with true righteousness. The righteousness of the believer rubs off onto the husband or wife and the kids.

Righteousness is not a dirty word that we should be staying away from, but it is a heavenly quality to seek after. righteousness comes through repentance. Repentance is humbleness before God, and righteousness is right standing with God.

“But My people did not listen to Me; Israel did not obey Me. So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own plans. If only My people would listen to Me and Israel would follow My ways, I would quickly subdue their enemies and turn My hand against their foes.”

Psalms 81:11-14 HCSB

“If I close the sky so there is no rain, or if I command the grasshopper to consume the land, or if I send pestilence on My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.

As for you, if you walk before Me as your father David walked, doing everything I have commanded you, and if you keep My statutes and ordinances, I will establish your royal throne, as I promised your father David: You will never fail to have a man ruling in Israel.”

2 Chronicles 7:13-14, 17-18 HCSB

“Zion will be redeemed by justice, her repentant ones by righteousness. But both rebels and sinners will be destroyed, and those who abandon the Lord will perish.”
