“Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” Romans 8:8 HCSB

“Finally then, brothers, we ask and encourage you in the Lord Jesus, that as you have received from us how you must walk and please God — as you are doing — do so even more.”

“For our exhortation didn’t come from error or impurity or an intent to deceive. Instead, just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please men, but rather God, who examines our hearts.”

“For am I now trying to win the favor of people, or God? Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a slave of Christ.”

How do we please God? Isn’t God’s love unconditional? isn’t He then bound by His own love to be pleased with us? On the contrary, God So loves us that He wants to rescue us from the Law of sins and death and be brought into the law of life. He loves us enough to disciple those who are called His Children, just as we parents ought to disciple and correct our kids when they are in the wrong. The parents set the rules in the house, not the kids. So God has set the rules in His house, not the church but the hearts of His children.

When we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior we were given a personal tutor, trainer, and teacher from God called the Holy Spirit. He has been given to tutor us in the words of God. He has been given to us to train us as soldiers in God’s army. He has been given to us to teach us the will of God.

in John 14 we are told three times how we are to show our love for God and once how we don’t show our Love to God. and we are shown what benefits we have when we love God.

“If you love Me, you will keep My commands. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.”

“The one who has My commands and keeps them is the one who loves Me. And the one who loves Me will be loved by My Father. I also will love him and will reveal Myself to him.”

John 14:21 HCSB

“Jesus answered, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”

John 14:23 HCSB

“The one who doesn’t love Me will not keep My words. The word that you hear is not Mine but is from the Father who sent Me.”

John 14:24 HCSB

I don’t know about you but I need another Counselor other than the one the world provides. I need God’s love and Jesus revealed in my life. I need God and Jesus to make there home in Me. They only way this will ever happen if I keep His commands and His words. The exact opposite is true if we don’t love God we will not keep His Commands and His Words.

Am I keeping God’s Word? Or do I ignore them and do my own thing. Am I living for the Flesh or the Spirit? Do I love the Law of sin and death because of the pleasure it gives me for the moment? Or do I love the law of Life because of the long term satisfaction despite the short term pains it may cause? For those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

“We know that everyone who has been born of God does not sin, but the One who is born of God keeps him, and the evil one does not touch him.”
