“How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping Your word. I have sought You with all my heart; don’t let me wander from Your commands. I have treasured Your word in my heart so that I may not sin against You. Lord, may You be praised; teach me Your statutes. With my lips I proclaim all the judgments from Your mouth. I rejoice in the way revealed by Your decrees as much as in all riches. I will meditate on Your precepts and think about Your ways. I will delight in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.” Psalms 119:9-16 HCSB

The title of verses 9-16 is Bet. Bet is a picture of the Son of God abiding with us. Bet is a backward c and it represents a house.

So with Jesus living in us let us consider verses 9-16

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping Your word.”
Psalms 119:9 HCSB

The way to a holy pure life is the keep the word of God in you. Jesus is the word of God. How can a young man ruin his way? By neglecting Jesus and His word. It is a slow process either way but keep pressing hard toward Jesus.

“I have sought You with all my heart; don’t let me wander from Your commands.”
Psalms 119:10 HCSB

We have to keep our hearts (house) clean. We let Jesus do that cleaning and when He says get rid of this we need to get rid of it and keep it gone. Jesus does not do this in one pass but gradually over time.

“I have treasured Your word in my heart so that I may not sin against You.”
Psalms 119:11 HCSB

The Word of God lives in us so that our house stays clean.

“Lord, may You be praised; teach me Your statutes.”
Psalms 119:12 HCSB

We praise Jesus for His work in us. he teaches us by His word. His statues direct our lives. Will we be taught by them?

“With my lips I proclaim all the judgments from Your mouth.”
Psalms 119:13 HCSB

When Jesus tells us to get rid of this and we don’t we suffer the judgments from God. The psalmist wanted to proclaim God’s judgments to the people to let them know how to best let Jesus live in them.

“I rejoice in the way revealed by Your decrees as much as in all riches.”
Psalms 119:14 HCSB

Do we enjoy the word of God more than anything else in the world? Do you enjoy Jesus more than anything else in the world? See Matthew 13:44.

“I will meditate on Your precepts and think about Your ways.”
Psalms 119:15 HCSB

When we spend time pondering the word of God, God directs our thoughts and hearts toward Him. We think about the rules and we think about How much He loves us. Jesus is the example of God’s love toward us.

“I will delight in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word.”
Psalms 119:16 HCSB

With the Word of God in us, we always have the Word with us. The Holy Spirit then can remind us of what the Word says and we are to act accordingly.

“Bet” is a house. Are we letting Jesus have his way in our house through His word?
