“Therefore, He had to be like His brothers in every way, so that He could become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.” Hebrews 2:17 HCSB

Jesus had to be a man in order to save man. We will never know the extent of how much he lost in His divinity to step down out of Heaven. He left His throne empty for the 33 years He was here on earth learning, suffering, being tempted, loving, hurting, and feeling. He became a man to save all mankind because He loved us that much. But that is not the end of His story. He did not just step down here to learn about mankind and to die for them. He was the first to raise from the dead eternally. He did die along with every other person before Him except for maybe one or two — Elijah (2 kings 2:11) and Enoch Genesis 5:24). These men God saw fit to take them before they died. Will these two return to be two witnesses in Revelation 11:3? Jesus lives forever and will never face death again. 

We as believers have this confidence, even though we may face death we will not face the second death found in Revelation 20:14-15 “Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And anyone not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”

He died to make propitiation, that is an atonement for us. God set as a rule from the beginning that sin, disobedience to God, is punishable by death. Adam and Eve sinned by disobeying God by eating the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. And passed this sin trait down to their children, who passed it down to there children, and so on. So now Jesus had to die to pay for their and our sins. But He was perfect and did not sin so He could not stay dead, but He came to life on the third day. 

Jesus was the only one who could do this. The priests that were set up by God in the exodus from Egypt through the one's today could only cover sins for a short period of time. The blood of these sheep and cows could only cover the sins of the people until they sinned again. Sin became costly they would either not offer the sacrifice as often as God would require or they would stop sinning. My guess what happened was that they would not offer the sacrifice as often as God would require. 

Now Jesus became the sin offering and the priest. He became the lamb and the one who put the lamb on the altar. The Romans, jews, or priests did not put Jesus there, He willingly put Himself there for you and me. 

Jesus is King, the ruler of men. He is the priest, the one to bring you to God. He is the sacrifice that washes your sins away. Your sin is costly to God. he gave up His Son for you and me in order to have fellowship with us once again as He did with Adam and Eve in the Garden 7,000 years ago. 

“Then the Lord God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being. The Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there He placed the man He had formed. The Lord God caused to grow out of the ground every tree pleasing in appearance and good for food, including the tree of life in the middle of the garden, as well as the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The Lord God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it. And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree of the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die.” Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper as his complement.”
