“But when you give to the poor, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:3-4 HCSB
Does this verse mean that our left is free to do as it pleases and is not accountable to the right? No way for our left is attached to the right by the brain. So it is between a husband and wife. The husband or wife cannot do whatever they want in the way of finances because they are attached to each other through God. But they are an extension of each other.
So what does it mean to not let the right know what the left is doing? It is kinda the opposite of what the hypocrites do. They let everyone know what they are to do. But we must let no one know what we have done. We must give in humility and after gain from others
God is the one who examines our motives. He wants you to give because He told you too. He wants you to obey with a sincere heart and clean hands.
“Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Make your own attitude that of Christ Jesus,”

“I, Yahweh, examine the mind, I test the heart to give to each according to his way, according to what his actions deserve.”

I think that the only thing we do that matters to God is our motivation behind our actions. If our motivations are evil our actions and words will be too. If our motivation is holy our actions and words will be holy also. When we give with a motivation to be seen our reward is to be seen because our action gives us away and we will hire trumpeters to announce our giving. But if our motivation to give is to honor God we will be quiet about it and our actions will honor God.
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
