“But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. So if the light within you is darkness — how deep is that darkness!” Matthew 6:23 HCSB

Just as verse 22 was about light verse 23 is about darkness. If you are filling it with evil your mind will think about evil. What is the old saying, “junk in Junk out”.  Listen to what Peter said about false prophets and false teachers from 1 Peter 2:1,14

“They have eyes full of adultery and are always looking for sin. They seduce unstable people and have hearts trained in greed. Children under a curse!”
2 Peter 2:14 HCSB

What are your eyes looking for? Are they chasing after adultery and idolatry or Righteous and holiness?

“Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar. I tell you about these things in advance — as I told you before — that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
Galatians 5:19-21 HCSB

Or

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law. Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”
Galatians 5:22-24 HCSB

The light that radiates out of you or the light in which you see the word can be two lights. It can be a 100 wat light bulb showing everyone God’s love, or a black light that distorts the truth. Under black light white objects look blue. If your light is dark you will be seeing not the truth but a lie about the truth. You may see God’s discipline as judgment and condemnation but in fact, He is just pruning you into A better person for Him.

Can we talk about our ears for a minute? Our ears are a gateway for evil to enter our bodies too. Listen to a command that an evil King made to a whole nation.

“When you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, drum, and every kind of music, you are to fall down and worship the gold statue that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.”
Daniel 3:5 HCSB

The music we listen to will tells us to worship something! If your music is telling you to worship God you are doing well. If your music is telling you to worship something of this world you are filling your mind’s eye with something evil.

Do we have the same resolve as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, not to listen to the worship music of this world?

“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied to the king, “Nebuchadnezzar, we don’t need to give you an answer to this question. If the God we serve exists, then He can rescue us from the furnace of blazing fire, and He can rescue us from the power of you, the king. But even if He does not rescue us, we want you as king to know that we will not serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up.”
Daniel 3:16-18 HCSB

What will you fill your mind”s eye with, light or darkness? What will be your light source be, a 100 wat bulb for God or a black light from the world? Choose for yourself today!

“Therefore, fear the Lord and worship Him in sincerity and truth. Get rid of the gods your fathers worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and worship Yahweh. But if it doesn’t please you to worship Yahweh, choose for yourselves today the one you will worship: the gods your fathers worshiped beyond the Euphrates River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my family, we will worship Yahweh.”
Joshua 24:14-15 HCSB
