We don’t need to babble on about the things we need. We most certainly can ask and tell God the things we need like food, water, clothes, shelter, and love but God knows we need them. We don’t need to sit awake at night worrying about these things. God will provide. 

“Two men went up to the temple complex to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee took his stand and was praying like this: ‘God, I thank You that I’m not like other people — greedy, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of everything I get.’ 

“But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even raise his eyes to heaven but kept striking his chest and saying, ‘God, turn Your wrath from me — a sinner! ’ I tell you, this one went down to his house justified rather than the other; because everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

The Pharisee babbled on about his great works before God but the tax collector saw himself through the eyes of God as a sinner who needed God. 

In His model prayer in John 17 Jesus says: “I am not praying that You take them out of the world but that You protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, as I am not of the world. Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.”

In the world we have needs, wants and wishes. But our desire should be to be sanctified by the truth of the Word of God. We can have dreams and wishes but they should line up with what God dreams and wishes for our life and not spent on worrying about what we cannot control.
