“Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them. He kept giving them to the disciples to set before the crowd.” Luke 9:16 HCSB
Five loaves and two fish. The more I study and learn about God I believe that God loves numbers. God did not name the days of the week or the months of the year. He calls them by their number. He created the heavens and the earth on day 1 and not on Sunday.
So what importance does the number five have? In Hebrew the fifth letter is “hey” it represents the created world we see around us. This includes the light of the sun. Jesus told us we are the light of this world. In heaven, Jesus will be the light there.
“You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden.”
Matthew 5:14 HCSB
“Night will no longer exist, and people will not need lamplight or sunlight, because the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign forever and ever.”
Revelation 22:5 HCSB
Jesus said that He was the bread of life —John 6:48
The second letter in the Hebrew alphabet is “bet” it represents Jesus. He is God in the flesh. Just as the fish was the flesh they ate. Jesus gave up his flesh and blood for us.
“So Jesus said to them, “I assure you: Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you do not have life in yourselves. Anyone who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day, because My flesh is real food and My blood is real drink. The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood lives in Me, and I in him. Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the bread that came down from heaven; it is not like the manna your fathers ate — and they died. The one who eats this bread will live forever.”
John 6:53-58 HCSB
Five plus two is seven. The seventh letter of the Hebrew alphabet “zayin’. Which means sword and complete. God completed His work in creation on day seven by resting. The seven pieces of food was all that was needed to feed the great multitude in front of Jesus. Both the wheat and the fish had to be cut by a blade (sword) to be used to eat.

The completed work in us will not happen until we get to heaven. so until then, we are to find our nourishment form Jesus and let our light shine into all the world.
