“As the two men were departing from Him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it’s good for us to be here! Let us make three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah” — not knowing what he said.” Luke 9:33 HCSB

Peter saw a plan to build 3 tabernacles in order of Jesus, Moses, and Elijah to live in, but God saw 3 places to worship Moses and Elijah and an experience with Jesus. It would not have been bad to worship Jesus up there in that tabernacle, but it would have turned into an experience that people would be chasing.

We see this pattern with the snake Moses set up.

“Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a snake image and mount it on a pole. When anyone who is bitten looks at it, he will recover.” So Moses made a bronze snake and mounted it on a pole. Whenever someone was bitten, and he looked at the bronze snake, he recovered.”
Numbers 21:8-9 HCSB

“He (Hezekiah) removed the high places, shattered the sacred pillars, and cut down the Asherah poles. He broke into pieces the bronze snake that Moses made, for the Israelites burned incense to it up to that time. He called it Nehushtan.”
2 Kings 18:4 HCSB

God started using the snake to bring healing to the people who were bitten by snakes sent by Him for the disobedience of the Israelites in the wilderness. They hung on to it and instead of worshiping God for His healing they sought out the experience of healing through the snake and began to worship it.

I think many modern church denominations have accepted this thinking. They found a place where God has showed up. They built a church around that then slowly over the generations have stayed put while God has moved in a new direction. The Gospel has never changed. The fact that Jesus is the only way to God needs to remain solid. The word of God is to remain true. What the Word says is the only criteria that makes me trust it. While these truths are rock solid there may be other areas that God would want to move the church in a new direction. Very rarely in the Word of God did God do the same thing twice. While He has moved on we the church has stayed still.

We must ask ourselves if our church is holding on to the truth of the Word of God or has it exchanged the truth for a lie from the world.

“They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served something created instead of the Creator, who is praised forever. Amen.”
Romans 1:25 HCSB

During this time of quarantine Lord, I ask You to visit all the churches in America and across the world. I ask you to remove from then the lies that they have bought into and bring back Your truth which they have neglected. Let us once again be united to Your son Jesus. I pray that He will alone be the object of worship in your church. I pray for any church that calls it Christian but is not worshiping You but your enemy will be spit out of your mouth. I pray that those people will find Jesus as their personal Lord - boss and Savior - debt canceler. I pray for the rest of the churches that they will wholly worship you instead of any lie that they have accepted from the world. In Jesus' name, I ask that You will sanctify them by Your truth. Amen!

“Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth.”
John 17:17 HCSB
