“As they were traveling on the road someone said to Him, “I will follow You wherever You go! ” Jesus told him, “Foxes have dens, and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.” Luke 9:57-58 HCSB

This person truly wanted to follow Jesus. He saw the miracles and wisdom of Jesus, but what he failed to see was the uncomfortable life Jesus walked. At the end of the day Jesus had no home to return to. His only possessions were the clothes He wore and His sandals.

Jesus had nothing here to leave behind because He had no one to leave it to. But greater than that He had no reason to have it. His life was going to be short l-lived and His ultimate home was Heaven.

This person wanted to follow Jesus but His bed was a place of comfort to him. His house was a distraction to him. He held on to stuff too much.

Stuff is ok to have until it pushes past God as the first priority in your life. God uses your stuff to reach people if you let Him. When we choose a house do we choose it because of the people we can have over for dinner and game nights? or do we choose it because it fits all our needs? When we choose a car do we choose it because it has all the bells and whistles or because it allows us to take more people with us to do something fun? Do we choose anything with God in mind or us?

Everything on this earth was created by God. He owns it. He just lets us borrow it while we are here on the earth.

Jesus may have had no place to lay His head at night, but His house in heaven will be filled with His brothers and sisters. His inheritance is greater than His possessions.

We have no idea if eventually this person followed Jesus or accepted Him as his savior. But what about you and me? Will we let go of our comfortable bed and spend time with God in the mornings? Will we let go of our stuff so that way God can use it to impact people for Him.
