“But Jesus, knowing the thoughts of their hearts, took a little child and had him stand next to Him.” Luke 9:47 HCSB

Jesus knew their thoughts of their hearts. In other words, He knew the intentions and motives of why they were thinking about being the greatest in His kingdom. 

Being great in His kingdom is not a bad thought, but wanting to the greatest so that you are elevated above everyone else is. Why? Because the kingdom of God is not self-rewarding, but self-sacrificing. We are called to be a servant to the least of these. We are called to have had the faith of a child. We are called to be love toward everyone so does not deserve it. 

Jesus was about to make a point but first He needed an example. He found this young boy. And had him stand next to Him. This boy was not filled with pride because he was picked by Jesus, but he may have been excited to be picked by Him. He was not rude to the others as he pushed through the crowd, but he may have been thoughtful of the others.

Has Jesus pick you and me because we are not rude, not self-seeking, not envious. Has he pick us because of our love for others

“Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not conceited, does not act improperly, is not selfish, is not provoked, and does not keep a record of wrongs. Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

A child will love their parents until the end even though they are not perfect. How much more should we be loving God who is our perfect Heavenly Father, and the rest of His kids, and the kids who have not yet entered His Family.
