“He sent messengers ahead of Him, and on the way they entered a village of the Samaritans to make preparations for Him.” Luke 9:52 HCSB
These were the first travel agents. I can imagine when Jesus was getting ready to leave one village He sent two disciples out a day early so that they may travel to the next village to find lodging, food, food, and a church. Jesus spent enough time traveling in secrete and with few places to lay his head. maybe He wanted to make sure there was room for Him at the inn.
To travel from Galilee to Jerusalem all travelers had two options: travel the straight path through Samaria and the mountains or take the long route across the Jordan. Jesus is taking the short path.
Jesus had no hatred toward the Samaritans. We see Him often in Samaria. Talking to the woman at the well.
We know Jesus is not the only one who has to choose which route to take. The Path of life can be hard to navigate. The Bible shows us that there are two paths to take in life.
“Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it. How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it.”
Matthew 7:13-14 HCSB
There is a highway moving at incredible speed and is much congested headed to hell. But on the way to Heaven is a small hiking trail with very few people and a much slower speed. The world wants us to pass on their road. Moving so fast that we forget what is most important, God and people.
Remember that the road to life is life in God. But the road to hell is self-gratifying and the pleasures are only short-lived.
No doubt Jesus was choosing this path to impact someone along the way. Our lives have an impact on people. Whether you are the President of the United States or just the common everyday Joe people are watching you and me. Most importantly God is watching you, wanting to you help you and give you peace and life.
