“Rejoice in hope; be patient in affliction; be persistent in prayer.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:12‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Paul lays out 9 ways to show family affection from verse 10 through 13

The fifth way we are to show family affection is to rejoice in hope. When we are rejoicing in hope we build up the family. When we are miserable in hopelessness we discourage the family. The goal is not to bring everyone down to our level of despair but to bring everyone up to the level of hope in Jesus. No matter what we have against us we have someone in us who is for us and then we will always have something to be thankful for.

“You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”

“Rejoice always! Pray constantly. Give thanks in everything, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

The sixth way we are to show family affection is to be patient in affliction.

Affliction can take on two forms. first, is discipline form God to purge out something He does not what in you. And second, is attacks from the devil because He wants to keep you far from God because He knows that the closer you are to God the more damage you will do to his kingdom. Both times affliction is temporary. The only permanent affliction is Hell. God will stop disciplining you when He has removed that something out of you. And the devil will stop attacking you when He knows it will not work anymore. The Devil can only attack you as much as God allows. The longer we drag out affliction the more it will drag down the family of God.

“No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields the fruit of peace and righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”

“Therefore, submit to God. But resist the Devil, and he will flee from you.”

“Very well,” the Lord told Satan, “everything he owns is in your power. However, you must not lay a hand on Job himself.” So Satan left the Lord’s presence.”

“Very well,” the Lord told Satan, “he is in your power; only spare his life.”

The Seventh way to show family affection is to be persistent in prayer.

Prayer is simply talking to God. Being persistent in prayer is not giving up in asking God for your requests and the requests in others. If we are persistent God will answer and we will rejoice when it comes to completion. One great way to pray is to pray for the other needs of the family and not only focused on your needs. That way when they receive their reward you can rejoice with them. When we pray we are laying down our lives for that moment so that we can take the needs of the family to the Father.

“There was a judge in a certain town who didn’t fear God or respect man. And a widow in that town kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ “For a while he was unwilling, but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or respect man, yet because this widow keeps pestering me, I will give her justice, so she doesn’t wear me out by her persistent coming.’ ” Then the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. Will not God grant justice to His elect who cry out to Him day and night? Will He delay to help them? I tell you that He will swiftly grant them justice. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He find that faith on earth? ””

“No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life for his friends.”
