“The anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you don’t need anyone to teach you. Instead, His anointing teaches you about all things and is true and is not a lie; just as He has taught you, remain in Him.” 1 John 2:27 HCSB
The anointing this church or pastor had was able to teach then the truth and it was true.
Today we have skeptics in our church that want to discount anointings from God and call them a lie. And we have some people who are trying to operate in an anointing that is not there and they are faking it. But that does not mean that God’s anointing is not false or fake, but it is real and it is true. Just make sure that you are operating under the power of the Holy Spirit and not under your own flesh.
Is there a difference between anointing and acting under a baptism?
First, let us look at two baptisms that are found in our Bible.
John’s baptism is the act of being submerged in water as a sign of your devotion to God for the repentance of sins.
“John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.”
Mark 1:4 HCSB

And Jesus’ baptism is the baptism of the Holy Spirit which comes after the baptism of John.
“I have baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
Mark 1:8 HCSB

“Repent,” Peter said to them, “and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 2:38 HCSB

So which baptism are we baptized in, John’s or Jesus’? The one we are baptized in is the one we are operating in. we cannot be baptized in John’s and operate in Jesus. If we are baptized in Jesus’ we fist must go through John. Most of the cases in the Bible of someone who receives the baptism of Jesus happened as they were getting baptized in water.
We see on one occasion that there were 12 disciples of John who were baptized in John’s baptism. But had not received the baptism of Jesus.
“While Apollos was in Corinth, Paul traveled through the interior regions and came to Ephesus. He found some disciples and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? ” “No,” they told him, “we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” “Then what baptism were you baptized with? ” he asked them. “With John’s baptism,” they replied. Paul said, “John baptized with a baptism of repentance, telling the people that they should believe in the One who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.” When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began to speak in other languages and to prophesy. Now there were about 12 men in all.”
Acts 19:1-7 HCSB

They were acting under the anointing of their baptism. They were Christians, but they did not have the anointing of the Holy Spirit in their lives.
So are we operating under just an anointing of repentance or of power? John’s anointing produces a repentant heart, and Jesus’ fills you with power to accomplish his calling.
So while baptism is with water the anointing can continue to in our lives.
There is one occasion when a group of believers received Jesus’ baptism before John’s
“While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came down on all those who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speaking in other languages and declaring the greatness of God. Then Peter responded, “Can anyone withhold water and prevent these people from being baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? ” And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay for a few days.”
