“But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:20‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Jesus is our hope in the resurrection. He is the downpayment that we will also raise from the dead. If Jesus did it then we will too.

The firstfruits is a concept that was established at the end of Jacob’s life, also known as Israel.

“Reuben, you are my firstborn, my strength and the firstfruits of my virility, excelling in prominence, excelling in power.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭49:3‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Here is Reuben the firstborn son of Jacob and He is the firstfruits of his strength and manhood.

Later on, Moses established a firstfruit offering to God. Being that the people were to bring the first harvest of fruit, grain, and livestock to God. They could not save the best for themselves but took it to the church for the use of the pastors and leaders of the church. This was the way of taking care of God’s pastors and those who took care of the church. These people had no land to call their own. They were given cities to be their houses but they had no land.

“The Levites will do the work of the tent of meeting, and they will bear the consequences of their sin. The Levites will not receive an inheritance among the Israelites; this is a permanent statute throughout your generations. For I have given them the tenth that the Israelites present to the Lord as a contribution for their inheritance. That is why I told them that they would not receive an inheritance among the Israelites.”

The firstfruit is an important concept for God and He promises a blessing to those who keep it.

“Honor the Lord with your possessions and with the first produce of your entire harvest; then your barns will be completely filled, and your vats will overflow with new wine.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:9-10‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

“Bring the full tenth into the storehouse so that there may be food in My house. Test Me in this way,” says the Lord of Hosts. “See if I will not open the floodgates of heaven and pour out a blessing for you without measure. I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not ruin the produce of your land and your vine in your field will not fail to produce fruit,” says the Lord of Hosts.”
‭‭Malachi‬ ‭3:10-11‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Jesus is our first fruits so that now we can experience His blessing pouring down on us. And we can expect to be taken up to Him on the last day. Our inheritance is not of this world as Jesus left nothing behind. So we are not to hang on to anything that we own as ours, but it is God’s blessing toward us that gives us all we have. And in Heaven, we will get to enjoy all that He has prepared for us.
