“Come to your senses and stop sinning, for some people are ignorant about God. I say this to your shame.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:34‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

The sin that Paul is wanting them to stop is the belief that the dead are not raised from the dead. Verse 34 ends Paul's discourse on if people are raised from the dead. He is echoing the point Jesus was making about God and the resurrection of the dead.

“Jesus answered them, “You are deceived, because you don’t know the Scriptures or the power of God. For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage but are like angels in heaven. Now concerning the resurrection of the dead, haven’t you read what was spoken to you by God: I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22:29-32‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Paul has used the first half of this chapter to give practical evidence of why people are raised from the dead. He first based it on Jesus’ resurrection and then how the life of the Christian would be wasted if the dead are not raised.

But now Paul is doing something bold. He is pointing the blame back to the reader. He has told them it is a sin. Now, they have the choice to obey or continue to sin. For they are no longer ignorant of God or of scripture. With knowledge of sin comes a choice. A fork in the path of life. They could either accept Paul’s word and repent and turn from their actions, or they can stuff their ears with their fingers and pretend they did not listen.

When the Bible is preached to us, do we listen? Are we willing to give up our sins and false beliefs in God to be more like our Lord Jesus? Or will we stuff our fingers in our ears and let the Devil steal the Word of God out of our lives.

“A sower went out to sow his seed. As he was sowing, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the sky ate it up. Other seed fell on the rock; when it sprang up, it withered, since it lacked moisture. Other seed fell among thorns; the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. Still other seed fell on good ground; when it sprang up, it produced a crop: 100 times what was sown.” As He said this, He called out, “Anyone who has ears to hear should listen! ”

If we are willing to give up our sins and false beliefs in God to be more like our Lord Jesus? Then we should pray something like this.

Lord Jesus, I have come to understand that I have actions and beliefs that do not line up with your word. You have made the way of victory over and past this sin. Help me to take the path that you open up to me to escape out of this sin. Lord help me to not open the door that will lead me down this path again. Lord Jesus, you are the boss. If You say don’t I will not. If you say go ahead I will. Continue to refine my beliefs, actions, and attitudes to be aline with you and your Word. I pay this in accordance to your will and your way Jesus.

If we are willing to let the devil have control of one of our beliefs, actions, or attitudes, then we don’t need to do anything we are still on the road opposed to God. I say this to you as Paul said it the the Corinthians: come to your senses and stop sinning, for you are ignorant about God. I say this to your shame.
