“There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is different from that of the earthly ones.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:40‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

What are some of the heavenly bodies we know about? Well, we have the sun, moon, and stars, but that is all in verse 41. Then we have Angels, Seraphim, and Cherubims.

“Seraphim were standing above Him; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.”

“Something like a sea of glass, similar to crystal, was also before the throne. Four living creatures covered with eyes in front and in back were in the middle and around the throne. The first living creature was like a lion; the second living creature was like a calf; the third living creature had a face like a man; and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. Each of the four living creatures had six wings; they were covered with eyes around and inside. Day and night they never stop, saying: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God, the Almighty, who was, who is, and who is coming.”

“He made two cherubim of gold; he made them of hammered work at the two ends of the mercy seat, one cherub at one end and one cherub at the other end. At each end, he made a cherub of one piece with the mercy seat. They had wings spread out. They faced each other and covered the mercy seat with their wings. The faces of the cherubim were looking toward the mercy seat.”

All these heavenly bodies differ from the earthly bodies we see here on earth. 

One man in our church was asking God to see an angel. One day while he was resting on his couch he was awakened by a presence in the room and He saw an angel. It towered over him and was dressed for battle. And he was terrified. Needless to say that he stopped praying to see an angel. 

At times we see angles as people in the bible. One time we read about a messenger angel who was held up by Satan until a warrior angel showed up. We read about angles who can hold back the wind and stand at the four corners of the world.

“He looked up, and he saw three men standing near him. When he saw them, he ran from the entrance of the tent to meet them and bowed to the ground.”

“Don’t be afraid, Daniel,” he said to me, “for from the first day that you purposed to understand and to humble yourself before your God, your prayers were heard. I have come because of your prayers. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for 21 days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me after I had been left there with the kings of Persia.”

“After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, restraining the four winds of the earth so that no wind could blow on the earth or on the sea or on any tree.”

The spender of the Heavenly bodies differs from us and even from each other. 

Jesus could have 12 legions of angels at His command to conquer over His captors.

“Or do you think that I cannot call on My Father, and He will provide Me at once with more than 12 legions of angels?”

There are angels who continually seek God on behalf of the children of the world.

“See that you don’t look down on one of these little ones, because I tell you that in heaven their angels continually view the face of My Father in heaven.”

If you think that all angles are pretty little creatures that fly around and play the harp you are misinformed. There may be some, but for the most part, they seem to be bigger and stronger than that. While some may play instruments in praise to God others are there only to sing praise to God while others are out delivering messages to God’s people. While others are out fighting against the dark powers of the world. 

“When the servant of the man of God got up early and went out, he discovered an army with horses and chariots surrounding the city. So he asked Elisha, “Oh, my master, what are we to do? ” Elisha said, “Don’t be afraid, for those who are with us outnumber those who are with them.” Then Elisha prayed, “ Lord, please open his eyes and let him see.” So the Lord opened the servant’s eyes. He looked and saw that the mountain was covered with horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”

“Then another sign appeared in heaven: There was a great fiery red dragon having seven heads and 10 horns, and on his heads were seven diadems. His tail swept away a third of the stars in heaven and hurled them to the earth. And the dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she did give birth he might devour her child.

Then war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon and his angels also fought, but he could not prevail, and there was no place for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was thrown out — the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the one who deceives the whole world. He was thrown to earth, and his angels with him.”

We never know how often we have seen an angel for they may be dressed in the splendor of someone in need.

“Don’t neglect to show hospitality, for by doing this some have welcomed angels as guests without knowing it.”
