“And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: My son, do not take the Lord’s discipline lightly or faint when you are reproved by Him, for the Lord disciplines the one He loves and punishes every son He receives.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:5-6‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

“Do not despise the Lord’s instruction, my son, and do not loathe His discipline; for the Lord disciplines the one He loves, just as a father, the son he delights in.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:11-12‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

We hate it when we have to be taken to the woodshed by God. Because He is disciplining us to remove a behavior that is inconsistent with His desire for us. But I would rather face His discipline rather than His judgment. His discipline is there to remove something out of our life that He wants gone, but judgment comes when we are unwilling to let discipline do it’s work and God has to remove us from His presence.

Jesus puts it this way in Luke 20:18 and Matthew 21:44

“Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, and if it falls on anyone, it will grind him to powder! ”

“Whoever falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whoever it falls, it will grind him to powder! ”

Responding to discipline will cause us to fall on The Rock, while judgment is The Rock falling on us. The outcome of the one who falls on The rock is a stronger and more holy person, but the outcome of the one whom The Rock falls on is complete destruction.
