“For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, so that you won’t grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:3 HCSB
Who are we to consider? Jesus! Why consider Jesus? He endured hostility from sinners! Why is that important? So that we won’t grow weary and lose heart!
You see that Jesus did not have this plushy life that we think He did. He did not spend His days relaxing by the Sea of Galilee hanging out with His fisherman buddies. He did not spend His time feasting in the home of Mary and Martha. But did spend His time traveling around to who needed to hear His message, to who needed His healing touch. The more He traveled, spoke, and touched the more His fame spread. The more his fame spread the more the people flocked to Him. The more people flocked to Him the more the religious leaders wanted Him dead! This did not stop Jesus, for death is why He came to earth.
“Then a man with a serious skin disease came to Him and, on his knees, begged Him: “If You are willing, You can make me clean.”
Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out His hand and touched him. “I am willing,” He told him. “Be made clean.” Immediately the disease left him, and he was healed. Then He sternly warned him and sent him away at once, telling him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer what Moses prescribed for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
Yet he went out and began to proclaim it widely and to spread the news, with the result that Jesus could no longer enter a town openly. But He was out in deserted places, and they would come to Him from everywhere.”

From this early miracle in His ministry came the first wave of people. Jesus could no longer walk into the public square, but had to stay out in the pastures and fields. But even then people flocked to him from the cities.
“He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest for a while.” For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat. So they went away in the boat by themselves to a remote place, but many saw them leaving and recognized them. People ran there by land from all the towns and arrived ahead of them. So as He stepped ashore, He saw a huge crowd and had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. Then He began to teach them many things.”

The mass of people was so big they could not get in the boat with Jesus, but wanted to be with Him. So they ran around the lake to find Jesus and as they did they gathered more people, but all Jesus and His disciples wanted was some downtime to eat and rest.
life was hectic for Jesus. But the real hostility came from the religious leaders.
“Then the chief priests and the scribes heard it and started looking for a way to destroy Him. For they were afraid of Him, because the whole crowd was astonished by His teaching.”

“Therefore, many of the Jews who came to Mary and saw what He did believed in Him. But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. So the chief priests and the Pharisees convened the Sanhedrin and said, “What are we going to do since this man does many signs? If we let Him continue in this way, everyone will believe in Him! Then the Romans will come and remove both our place and our nation.”

“Pilate, wanting to release Jesus, addressed them again, but they kept shouting, “Crucify! Crucify Him! ” A third time he said to them, “Why? What has this man done wrong? I have found in Him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore, I will have Him whipped and then release Him.” But they kept up the pressure, demanding with loud voices that He be crucified. And their voices won out. So Pilate decided to grant their demand and released the one they were asking for, who had been thrown into prison for rebellion and murder. But he handed Jesus over to their will.”

“Two others — criminals — were also led away to be executed with Him. When they arrived at the place called The Skull, they crucified Him there, along with the criminals, one on the right and one on the left. Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, because they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided His clothes and cast lots.”

Life may get busy or hectic for us, but it is nothing like Jesus’ life on the run toward God’s will. People may hate us because of our love of Jesus but in America, for the time being, our lives will not be destroyed like it is for our brothers and sisters around the world in various but growing nations. But when it does let us consider Jesus who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, so that we won’t grow weary and lose heart.
