“Instead, you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God (the heavenly Jerusalem), to myriads of angels in festive gathering, to the assembly of the firstborn whose names have been written in heaven, to God who is the Judge of all, to the spirits of righteous people made perfect, to Jesus (mediator of a new covenant ), and to the sprinkled blood, which says better things than the blood of Abel.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭12:22-24‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

In contrast to verses 18-21, we have come to good and exciting things. We have come to Mount Zion. We have come to the city of God. We have come to an abundance of Angels who are excited to be serving God. We have come to gather with fellow brothers and sisters with Jesus. We have come to God who will judge those who will not follow His will and those who cause us harm. We have come to an assembly of righteous people who are only perfect because of Jesus. We have come to Jesus who is the author and perfecter of our faith. We have come to the blood that was spilled and sprinkled once for us and not to the blood that has to be applied repetitively or that was spilled in vain.

We have come to all good things now let us serve God with gladness. Let us worship God with joy. Let us live for God with an excitement that makes Jesus look attractive to the world. Now is not the time for sadness and morning but a joyous celebration because He is returning soon!

“Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to all of them, “This day is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people were weeping as they heard the words of the law. Then he said to them, “Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, because the joy of the Lord is your stronghold.””

“But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin’s deception.”

“For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.”

“let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water. Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us be concerned about one another in order to promote love and good works, not staying away from our worship meetings, as some habitually do, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.”
