“He replied to them, “What did Moses command you? ” Mark 10:3 HCSB
The law given to Moses was given directly from God, who knows what is best for us. Jesus often pointed the Jewish people back to Moses. Here the people are asking about divorce and Jesus is asking, “What does the Law from Moses say?” Early in His ministry Jesus healed a man and told him to go present himself to the Jewish leaders and do what is commanded by Moses.
“telling him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer what Moses prescribed for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.””

Jesus’ standard was Moses’ law. But the people of the day had nullified Moses’ law in order to keep their own rules.
“He also said to them, “You completely invalidate God’s command in order to maintain your tradition! For Moses said: Honor your father and your mother; and Whoever speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death. But you say, ‘If a man tells his father or mother: Whatever benefit you might have received from me is Corban’ ” (that is, a gift committed to the temple), “you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother. You revoke God’s word by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many other similar things.”

And even today we have thrown out the law of Moses and it becomes less of the 10 commandments and more of the 10 good principles, but they are too old school for this current century. Instead should they not also be the bedrock of our faith as it was back when Moses commanded them?
“Moses came and told the people all the commands of the Lord and all the ordinances. Then all the people responded with a single voice, “We will do everything that the Lord has commanded.””

But no doubt we have the verse, Christ has not come to nullify the law but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17) in mind. If Jesus came to fulfill it then it has been all completed and we no longer have a role to play? That is true only in the laws requiring the sacrificial blood offerings. But what about the other 90% of the law? Are we to neglect these others. I doubt it. But they will be God’s moral judgment right after Jesus’ work. First, will be did you accept Jesus’ work on the cross of Calvary, and then second it will be did you live up to the standard Jesus and Moses taught you?
“Don’t assume that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.”
