“Therefore what God has joined together, man must not separate.” Mark 10:9 HCSB
The meaning of joined together is is to link together like a yoke. God has joined the husband and wife to be one unit going in the same direction, doing the same thing. The marriage has one purpose and that is to fulfill the will of God in the lives of both individuals. The farmer will not separate the cows while there is work to be done. For the Christian marriage, the work is not done until we get to heaven. That is why it is critical to hang on to “till death do us apart”.
Some people may look at marriage as a ball and chain, or some other hindering device that holds them back from fulfilling their desires, but instead, marriage is a companion who comes beside us to help pull the load of both people’s desires. Marriage is a choice of the individuals but it is a blessing for those who choose to embrace it.
The church is the bride of Christ. we are married to Jesus. Jesus gave up His life so that we could have life and have it more abundantly. We come alongside Him to do His will and He empowers us to accomplish His will. Just as the earthly marriage is a good thing so is the Christian life. His yoke is not heavy but light. He does not ask us to overwork for work for Him, but to be living sacrifices to God which is our reasonable service.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”

It is hard to be yoked together with someone who is going in the opposite direction. because they will pull you away from the plan and purpose of God. To the married, you must continue to love them and work diligently to love them to Christ. To the unmarried, get out! whether it be a relationship or a business partner they will have a different mindset than you and will lead you down the wrong wide path. But be joined to Christ who will lead you down the correct narrow path.
“Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it. How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it.”
