“But to sit at My right or left is not Mine to give; instead, it is for those it has been prepared for.” Mark 10:40 HCSB
Do you think Jesus knows who will sit at His right or left?
“He told them, “You will indeed drink My cup. But to sit at My right and left is not Mine to give; instead, it belongs to those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.”

Could this be one thing that the father knows but Jesus does not know, yet? But wait a minute, Is not Jesus part of the trinity of God and He is one with the father? So how can he be one with God yet not know who will sit at His right and left? Does God not share with Jesus the seating chart of the 24 elders? To be honest I do not know whether Jesus knows or not but I wanted to bring out the fact that Jesus is one with God but does not know it all yet.
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away. Now concerning that day or hour no one knows — neither the angels in heaven nor the Son — except the Father. Watch! Be alert! For you don’t know when the time is coming.”

God has the timing of the last days planed out. But at the time when Jesus walked this earth, He did not know when it would all happen. And He was ok with that. He could throw a fit and tell His Father that He did not trust Jesus with such an important detail. But He did not do that He yielded completely to the Father.
“And Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into Your hands I entrust My spirit.” Saying this, He breathed His last.”

If Jesus had complete trust in the Father to hold in His hand the time table of His return could we also trust God to complete His good work in us?
“I am sure of this, that He who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

“We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose. For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers. And those He predestined, He also called; and those He called, He also justified; and those He justified, He also glorified.”

“For I know the plans I have for you” — this is the Lord’s declaration — “plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

James and John may or may not be seated at the right and left of Jesus in the circle of 24 elders, but they are seated there with 22 other people who have submitted to God’s plan and have waited for Him to carry it out in them. Have you submitted to God’s plan for your life?
