“Go your way,” Jesus told him. “Your faith has healed you.” Immediately he could see and began to follow Him on the road.Mark 10:52 HCSB

This is an example of the two choices.

We know there is another man who was blind because of the account found in Matthew.

As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed Him.  There were two blind men sitting by the road. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David! ”

In all accounts of this story in Matthew, Mark, and Luke the men were healed and they followed Jesus. But Mark is the only gospel where we find out one man's name, Bartimaeus. Mark's audience would have been familiar with Bartimaeus. That makes me think that He continued to follow Jesus after the cross. What about the other guy? He has to decide which choice to choose. He has to choose between keep following Jesus or to walk away.  He may have friends and family whom he has not seen. I am guessing that he stopped following Jesus sometime before the cross.

Another account where the people have a choice is the story of the prodigal son found in Luke 15.

He also said: “A man had two sons. The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate I have coming to me.’ So he distributed the assets to them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered together all he had and traveled to a distant country, where he squandered his estate in foolish living.
So he got up and went to his father. But while the son was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him. The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son.’
“Now his older son was in the field; as he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. So he summoned one of the servants and asked what these things meant. ‘Your brother is here,’ he told him, ‘and your father has slaughtered the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’
“Then he became angry and didn’t want to go in. So his father came out and pleaded with him. But he replied to his father, ‘Look, I have been slaving many years for you, and I have never disobeyed your orders, yet you never gave me a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your assets   with prostitutes, you slaughtered the fattened calf for him.’
“ ‘Son,’  he said to him, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ ”

Once again we find two people the younger son, who wanted the world right now, and the older son, who stayed at the father's house. The younger son to leave the father's house but then came to his senses and returned to the father who welcomed him. The older son was in the father's house and did not know what he had. He had all the father's wealth to "celebrate" with his friends but he never asked.

We have the same choices. We can follow Jesus for a while then turn back to old family and friends. Or we can follow Jesus through all the challenges that come with the Cross of Christ. We can be the young son who comes back to the Father after our time in the world is complete. Or we can stay in the world and forget about the love The Father has shown us. Or we can live in the Father's house with knowing that true wealth that is ours because of the love the Father lavishes on us. But God"s desire for us to make is to live in the abundance of what He has to offer. But the choice is ours.

Doing what is righteous and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.
Proverbs 21:3 HCSB

Then Samuel said: Does the Lord take pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? Look: to obey is better than sacrifice, to pay attention is better than the fat of rams. For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and defiance is like wickedness and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He has rejected you as king.

“Therefore, fear the Lord and worship Him in sincerity and truth. Get rid of the gods your fathers worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and worship Yahweh. But if it doesn’t please you to worship Yahweh, choose for yourselves today the one you will worship: the gods your fathers worshiped beyond the Euphrates River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. As for me and my family, we will worship Yahweh.”
Joshua 24:14‭-‬15 HCSB

“Look, today I set before you a blessing and a curse:  there will be a blessing, if you obey the commands of the Lord your God I am giving you today, and a curse, if you do not obey the commands of the Lord your God and you turn aside from the path I command you today by following other gods you have not known.
Deuteronomy 11:26‭-‬28 HCSB

For those who live according to the flesh think about the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, about the things of the Spirit. For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set of the Spirit is life and peace. For the mind-set of the flesh is hostile to God because it does not submit itself to God’s law, for it is unable to do so. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship.  Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
