For we who live are always given over to death because of Jesus, so that Jesus’ life may also be revealed in our mortal flesh.2 Corinthians 4:11 HCSB

When was the last time you lived to die so that another person's death was able to give you their life? This is exactly what Jesus expects from us and in-turn gives us. Jesus gave up all his divine comforts to live the life of us. After his 33 years he, being perfect, died. But on the third day, He walked out of His tomb so that through His death we can live. He then returned to heaven and took up His divine comforts again with the experience of life as we know it.
But He does not stop there, but now He extends His life to us so that the life we live is filled with Him!

There are times I do not like Paul's writing. He makes it hard to read and hard to understand. What does he mean by always given over to death?

"Always" means always.
"Given over" is paradidomi (Strongs G3860) means to surrender, yield up, intrust, transmit:—betray, bring forth, cast, commit, deliver up, give over, hazard, put in prison, recommend.
"to" means to.
"Death" means death

Given over is the complex word here. Given over (paradidomi) is to be delivered.

And just as it is appointed for people to die once — and after this, judgment — so also the Messiah, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him.

We all have started on the path of death, but Jesus shifts our focus on death. The death of the world is despair and guilt, while the death of Jesus is life and hope.

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

For the bread of God is the One who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
Then they said, “Sir, give us this bread always! ”
“I am the bread of life,” Jesus told them. “No one who comes to Me will ever be hungry, and no one who believes in Me will ever be thirsty again.
John 6:33‭-‬35 HCSB

The grain has to die to be harvested. The harvested grain has to be crushed to be made into flour. The flour has to be mixed with water to be made into dough. The dough has to be passed through the fire to become bread. Bread has to be eaten to be life. Jesus is the bread that has endured the fire, water, crushing, and harvesting so that He may give us life.

Who's death are we living in? The death of the world leads us down the wide highway that leads to Hell, but the death of Jesus leads us up the narrow street of Jesus that leads to Heaven. Do we live each moment with the death of Jesus in mind with the old saying, what will Jesus do, in mind? Or do we throw the guidance of the Holy Spirit out the window and live how we want?

So then, brothers, we are not obligated to the flesh to live according to the flesh, for if you live according to the flesh, you are going to die. But if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. All those led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons.
