Indeed, everything is for your benefit, so that grace, extended through more and more people, may cause thanksgiving to increase to God’s glory.2 Corinthians 4:15 HCSB

“Everything is permissible for me,” but not everything is helpful. “Everything is permissible for me,” but I will not be brought under the control of anything.

“Everything is permissible,”  but not everything is helpful. “Everything is permissible,” but not everything builds up.

This is not a license to sin, but know that God's rules and activities are for our benefit. Why should we waste our time on things that are not helpful, but are hurting us? The grace of God is there to help us into thanksgiving for God's glory, not for sin.

Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable — if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise — dwell on these things.

There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven:
a time to give birth and a time to die;
a time to plant and a time to uproot;
a time to kill and a time to heal;
a time to tear down and a time to build;
a time to weep and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn and a time to dance;
a time to throw stones and a time to gather stones;
a time to embrace and a time to avoid embracing;
a time to search and a time to count as lost;
a time to keep and a time to throw away;
a time to tear and a time to sew;
a time to be silent and a time to speak;
a time to love and a time to hate;
a time for war and a time for peace.

Sin has had its season before today and now is the day of salvation for the non-believer, the pre-believer, and the believer. Today is the day the old habits fall off and the grace of God is filling up. When God says, "don't", there is a better you on the other side waiting for you. When God says, "do" there is a benefit to everyone around you. God's motivations are love and wanting to see you become the best person He knows you can be through Jesus. Jesus is our goal, the Holy Spirit is our motivator and God is our encourager. So please stop silencing your motivator. Stop looking at God like He is your enemy. And Stop looking to the world as your example. You can be the best you because God has the power to do it in your life if you will let Him.

Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.
