This grace was given to me — the least of all the saints — to proclaim to the Gentiles the incalculable riches of the Messiah, and to shed light for all about the administration of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things. Ephesians 3:8‭-‬9 HCSB

Can I boil this down just a little bit? Paul is trying to reveal a mystery but then he hides it in these two verses.

This grace was given to me to proclaim to the Gentiles the incalculable riches of the Messiah, and to shed light about the administration of the mystery hidden in God.

There is nothing wrong with Paul saying that He was the least of the saints. Or that the light is for all. Or that God created all things. But for me, these statements made it hard for me to understand what Paul was saying.

God's grace is extended to Paul and us to proclaim the riches of Jesus' work as Messiah and to shed light on the mysterious workings of God. God's grace is given to us to tell others about Jesus and to teach others how to see God working. That is salvation and discipleship.

Jesus had two main goals in His ministry.

He also appointed 12 — He also named them apostles  — to be with Him, to send them out to preach,  and to have authority to drive out demons.

To train his disciples how to be with Him, and to send them out as witnesses of Himself.

We see that He accomplished it.

I have glorified You on the earth by completing the work You gave Me to do.

When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished! ” Then bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

He then commanded them to do the same.

Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.  Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember,   I am with you always,   to the end of the age.”

Then He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends   of the earth.”

Paul continued this work into his ministry.

On the contrary, after we had previously suffered, and we were treated outrageously in Philippi, as you know, we were emboldened by our God to speak the gospel of God to you in spite of great opposition.

And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

What will we do with the grace God gives us? Will we tell others of what God has done for us and live an exampled life in front of them? Or will we live a non-glorifying life in front of the ones around us and then get laughed at when we try to tell them of Jesus?
