I pray that He may grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power in the inner man through His Spirit, and that the Messiah may dwell in your hearts through faith. I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God’s love, and to know the Messiah’s love that surpasses knowledge, so you may be filled with all the fullness of God.Ephesians 3:16‭-‬19 HCSB

This is the second of two prayers of Paul found in Ephesians. The first is found in chapter 1. We may be talking about chapter 1 after verse 21. I will try to walk through this prayer phrase by phrase.

1. According to the riches of His glory.

How is God not rich? In Him, we have all things. He holds it all in the palm of His hand. Does He lack anything in wealth, love, glory, mercy, grace, and holiness?

He lacks in honor, not because He does not deserve it, but because we don't give it to Him. We all have the choice to praise Him for everything good and bad in our lives, or we can praise Worry and Fear for all that we think is not going right. Which one will we choose?

Each of the four living creatures had six wings; they were covered with eyes around and inside. Day and night they never stop, saying: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God, the Almighty, who was, who is, and who is coming.
Revelation 4:8 HCSB

These four creatures testify of the glory of God. They encircle the throne of God and declare God to be Holy all around. His Glory is untouchable, but yet in it, He wants us to be a part of it.

But He answered, “You cannot see My face, for no one can see Me and live.” The Lord said, “Here is a place near Me. You are to stand on the rock, and when My glory passes by, I will put you in the crevice of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by.  Then I will take My hand away, and you will see My back, but My face will not be seen.”

Then He said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the Lord ’s presence.” At that moment, the Lord passed by. A great and mighty wind was tearing at the mountains and was shattering cliffs before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was a voice, a soft whisper.

Now the cherubim were standing to the south of the temple when the man went in, and the cloud filled the inner court.  Then the glory of the Lord rose from above the cherub to the threshold of the temple. The temple was filled with the cloud, and the court was filled with the brightness of the Lord’s glory.
Ezekiel 10:3‭-‬4 HCSB

When Solomon finished praying, fire descended from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the Lord filled the temple. The priests were not able to enter the Lord’s temple because the glory of the Lord filled the temple of the Lord. All the Israelites were watching when the fire descended and the glory of the Lord came on the temple. They bowed down on the pavement with their faces to the ground. They worshiped and praised the Lord: For He is good, for His faithful love endures forever.

The cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.  Moses was unable to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud rested on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
Exodus 40:34‭-‬35 HCSB

God wants to be in the presence of His people but will not show up until He is invited and welcome. One of His desires is to be with His people. He created a garden for Him, Adam, and Eve to fellowship in. He provided a way for the high priests to make atonement for the sins of His people. He declared four feats for them to come to His holy presence. He provided a way through Jesus to permanently heal the broken fellowship with us. He wants to give to us out of the riches of His glory. Will we do what He asks us to do to be in glory?
