As usual, Paul went to the synagogue...

“Then they traveled through Amphipolis and Apollonia and came to Thessalonica, where there was a Jewish synagogue. As usual, Paul went to the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and showing that the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead: “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah.”

“As soon as it was night, the brothers sent Paul and Silas off to Berea. On arrival, they went into the synagogue of the Jews.”

“While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, his spirit was troubled within him when he saw that the city was full of idols. So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with those who worshiped God and in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be there.”

We see Paul in three different cities doing the same thing, going to the Jewish Synagogues. His location was different but his routine was the same, reason with the Jews on the Sabbath in their synagogue. And we see three different responses to Paul. Trouble was stirred up for him in Thessalonica. Research was stirred in, in Berea. Lack of action was prevalent in Athens. The Thessalonians were cold toward The Gospel of Jesus. The Bereans were hot toward the Gospel. And the Athenians were lukewarm toward the Gospel.

“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were cold or hot. So, because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of My mouth.”

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3:15-16‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

But Paul always found a group who would accept the Word of Truth with eagerness. In Thessalonica, he found some God-fearing Greeks and some of the leading women. In Berea, he found prominent Greek women as well as men. In Athens, he found Epicurean and Stoic philosophers who wanted to hear more.

But through all this Paul’s message was the same.

“For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:2‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

Is our message to the world around us the same if we are around the world, the church, or Walmart? Are we preaching Jesus crucified to anyone and everyone? Or does our message change with the crowd around us? Do we tailor our message differently based on who we are around?

“preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and exhort, with great patience and instruction.”

‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4:2‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

We will encounter trouble, research, and lack of action, but we will never know until we speak the Gospel of Jesus which is Him crucified!
