Is God against you or for you?
“Behold, I am against you,” declares the Lord of hosts. “I will burn up her chariots in smoke, a sword will devour your young lions; I will cut off your prey from the land, and no longer will the voice of your messengers be heard.”

Who is the one God is against? Nineveh! What happened? Just a few prophets ago in Jonah, God was willing to forgive and keep Nineveh, but now He has turned against them. They have accomplished God’s will and turned away from Him in arrogance as many kingdoms have done before.
Egypt
“Now a new king arose over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. He said to his people, “Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are more and mightier than we. Come, let us deal wisely with them, or else they will multiply and in the event of war, they will also join themselves to those who hate us, and fight against us and depart from the land.”
Exodus 1:8-10 NASB1995

Babylon
“The king reflected and said, ‘Is this not Babylon the great, which I myself have built as a royal residence by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?’”

Assyria
“Behold, Assyria was a cedar in Lebanon With beautiful branches and forest shade, And very high, And its top was among the clouds.
‘Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Because it is high in stature and has set its top among the clouds, and its heart is haughty in its loftiness,”

Damascus/ Syria
“For you have forgotten the God of your salvation And have not remembered the rock of your refuge. Therefore you plant delightful plants And set them with vine slips of a strange god.”
Isaiah 17:10 NASB1995

They had their use to God but then they all felt proud and lifted up instead of being humbled because they were used by God.
It all goes back to if God speaks it will happen. Repentance and obedience will delay it for a few generations but in the end, it will happen!
“Now then let Me alone, that My anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them; and I will make of you a great nation.”
Exodus 32:10 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/exo.32.10.NASB1995
“Then Moses entreated the Lord his God, and said, “O Lord, why does Your anger burn against Your people whom You have brought out from the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? Why should the Egyptians speak, saying, ‘With evil intent He brought them out to kill them in the mountains and to destroy them from the face of the earth’? Turn from Your burning anger and change Your mind about doing harm to Your people. Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants to whom You swore by Yourself, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heavens, and all this land of which I have spoken I will give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.’ ”
Exodus 32:11-13 NASB1995

“So the Lord changed His mind about the harm which He said He would do to His people.”
Exodus 32:14 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/exo.32.14.NASB1995
“Now the time that it took for us to come from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed over the brook Zered was thirty-eight years, until all the generation of the men of war perished from within the camp, as the Lord had sworn to them. Moreover the hand of the Lord was against them, to destroy them from within the camp until they all perished.”
Deuteronomy 2:14-15 NASB1995

So to recap in Exodus 32 God declares that he will destroy the whole nation of Israel and start over with Moses. Moses then pleaded against the reputation of God and God spares the whole nation. And 38 years later through disobedience, God devastated the nation and killed all the fighting-aged men except two, Caleb and Joshua.
Jonah’s prophesy did not happen in the 40 days that he gave them but it did happen later in Naham’s day.
“The Lord will make the pestilence cling to you until He has consumed you from the land where you are entering to possess it. Moreover, the Lord will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth; and there you shall serve other gods, wood and stone, which you or your fathers have not known.”
Deuteronomy 28:21, 64 NASB1995

“When they sin against You (for there is no man who does not sin) and You are angry with them and deliver them to an enemy, so that they take them away captive to the land of the enemy, far off or near;”
1 Kings 8:46 NASB1995

“In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and carried Israel away into exile to Assyria, and settled them in Halah and Habor, on the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.”

The prophecies of Moses and Saul did not take place in their lifetimes but were fulfilled generations later when their sins and iniquities had reached their full measure and there was no longer repentance in the hearts of the leadership and the people.
Today will we be stubborn and continue to send our nation closer to God’s wrath? Or will we be the repentance that turns our nation back to God? What about our state? County? City? Home? Will we suffer the same fate as Nineveh did? Or will we be found standing with God when He sets up his kingdom here on the earth?
