A spirit of Grace for the nation of the Hebrews

“I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn.”

‭‭Zechariah‬ ‭12‬:‭10‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

The one whom they have pierced is Jesus! The house of David, Israel, has rejected Jesus as their Messiah, but there is a day that is coming soon when they will see that He was their true messiah. But for now, God is at work in the Gentile nations, those who will look for him. The spirit of grace has already been given to us. Let us extend it out as it has been given to us.

We have a charge from God.

“We love, because He first loved us. If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also.”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭19‬-‭21‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

“This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.”

‭‭John‬ ‭15‬:‭12‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

We are to love each other as Jesus Loved us. This goes beyond the golden rule: treat others the way you want to be treated. The golden rule is based on how we feel about ourselves but this love is based on how God feels about them. Therefore we are to extend to them the same grace that was extended to us by God after Jesus was rejected by the house of David.

“But get up and stand on your feet; for this purpose I have appeared to you, to appoint you a minister and a witness not only to the things which you have seen, but also to the things in which I will appear to you; rescuing you from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you, to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.’”
