God gives grace to the humble.
“But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.”
James 4:6, 10 NASB1995

James is quoting Proverbs 3:34
“Though He scoffs at the scoffers, Yet He gives grace to the afflicted.”
Proverbs 3:34 NASB1995

Proverbs 3:34 is also quoted by Peter
“You younger men, likewise, be subject to your elders; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time,”
1 Peter 5:5-6 NASB1995

If God repeats Himself twice we better take notice, but if He repeats Himself three times it is a big matter to Him. For God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.
Jesus put it this way.
“And he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust.”
Matthew 21:44 NASB1995

A humble man will fall onto Jesus, the chief cornerstone, but a proud man will bring the whole vengeance of God upon himself and will be crushed in the process.
“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;”
Philippians 2:3 NASB1995

Paul relates being humble with service to our fellow man. Who of us can serve while being in pride? I think it is impossible! If we do then we are a noisy cymbal and not loving those whom we serve.
“If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.”
1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NASB1995

Jesus was a humble man because he served those needs around Him.
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:45 NASB1995

Moses was a humble man for he judged those around him in the fairness of God.
“It came about the next day that Moses sat to judge the people, and the people stood about Moses from the morning until the evening.”
Exodus 18:13 NASB1995

This is God‘s testimony of Moses
“(Now the man Moses was very humble, more than any man who was on the face of the earth.)”
Numbers 12:3 NASB1995

The humble usually get walked over like Moses, but the Lord notices and will take care of them in His eternal and everlasting grace. And a promotion at the right time. Our humble service to God will never go unnoticed and will be rewarded.
“Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.”
