You have received a special gift.
“As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
1 Peter 4:10 NASB1995
Each of us has received a special unique gift from God. I am not talking about salvation. For salvation is extended to everyone who will call on the Name of the Lord Jesus. I am talking about a unique gift that is tailored to fit only you. It is designed to highlight your weaknesses. It is tailored to purify your strengths. It is uniquely yours. Your past shapes it. It defines your future. It is covered in grace and mercy. It forces you to rely on God and not anything you can do in your power.
What is your unique gift? It is your calling to accomplish the specific will of God in your life. The best way I can tell you what is your gift and calling is to begin to serve and find what brings you joy. Then develop your talents to better serve in that area.
“But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.”
1 Corinthians 12:7-11 NASB1995
“Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; if service, in his serving; or he who teaches, in his teaching; or he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.”
Romans 12:6-8 NASB1995
“And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;”
Ephesians 4:11-12 NASB1995
These three passages give us lists of actions and attitudes that shape us. These three begin to define who we are and the special gift God has given to us.
A person who has a word of wisdom gift with a prophesy motivation with an apostle position has a different special gift than a person with an interpretation of tongues gift with a mercy motivation with a teaching position.
Check out this post for a more comprehensive study of our gifts.
Our special gift is to be used for specific reasons.
Employ it in serving one another.
For the common good.
Each of us is to exercise them according to the body of Christ.
To the building up of the body of Christ.
Our special gift is for the building up of individual members of the church and the church as a whole!
